NEW DELHI: Officials at the stock market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) should co-operate with Sahara to verify documents , which the company has already furnished and also accept the data which has been stored near Mumbai for delivery to Sebi.

This was stated by the counsel for Sahara, Ram Jethmalani in the Supreme Court, according to a statement issued by the company. Jethmalani, who resumed his arguments in the case, said Sebi is oblized to give an opportunity to Sahara if they ar e not convinced with the verification of documents furnished by the company "Mr Ram Jethmalani said Sahara could only be in contempt if they have willfully disobeyed the order of the court. But given the facts, it is clear that Sahara has substantially complied with the directions, which itself is a mammoth task and was impossible," the company statement quoted Jethmalani as saying in court.

Jethmalani pointed out various stages at which Sahara had informed or notified to the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) and the Supreme Court about the premature redemptions , which were made by Sahara in 2011 and up to April 30, 2012. The lawyer had said it is incorrect to state that Sahara had never informed SAT/ court of the redemptions made.

Jethmalani took the court through various correspondences , which ensued between Sebi and Sahara with regard to submission of documents. He said Sahara had made all efforts and undertook the mammoth task of collating the documents. The truck carrying the documents had reached Sebi's office on the 10th day after office hours. But Sebi did not accept the papers.
